Notes

  • Recent Examples: Licensing Working Group (LWG) membership, discussion in Communication Working Group (CWG) about balance of topics.
  • Concern about corporate influence was one of the issues that came up during community consultation.
  • We do have a perception issue, there may be some perception that corporations have more influence than they actually do.
    • might be corrected somewhat by highlighting our decisions that are demonstrably not overly corporate-friendly (attribution, conflict of interest rules).
  • There's a risk of discouraging people from contributing; we could offer clearer structures for where someone could help.
  • (Some) corporations are not clear what the rules of the game are; one avenue for dialog are the Advisory Board (AB) corporate meetings.
  • Corporations are reaching out to Local Chapters (LC) as part of organized mapping efforts.
  • LCs might be our allies in this effort.
  • Make members realize their power to make resolutions.
  • Communicate...
    • ... on what we're doing to strengthen volunteers.
    • ... positive examples of corporations doing it right.

Decisions

  • Raise topic during the Local Chapter advisory board meeting next week.
  • Continue to keep an eye on the situation and respond appropriately if needed.
